Off The Air

SCHENECTADY — It will be at least another three weeks before you’ll be able to watch New York Lottery drawings on television. After failing to get any takers, the state Lottery on April 20 re-issued its request for proposals and this time opened the process up to area cable stations, according to Jennifer Givner, spokeswoman for the Schenectady-based business. She said bids to air the day’s winning numbers are due back May 11, the multiyear contract will be awarded three days later and will take effect June 1. For the time being, the winning numbers are available on the Lottery’s Web site and those of local news outlets, including the Times Union.
She said WTEN News 10 aired its final Lottery broadcast on April 30. The station did not immediately return a call seeking comment. Among the games featured on the broadcasts were Win 4, Mega Millions, Take 5 and Numbers. Neither WTEN nor the Lottery received payment for televising the results.
